Description

Side menu (Custom menu) is not working when apps.nextcloud.com is offline

Issue

Lately apps.nextcloud.com is often offline and when that happenes the Side menu is not opening, and there is an error in the logs that curl could not open apps server and some other errors from side_menu itself (screenshot 2)

Environment

  • Side menu version: latest (Big menu)
  • Nextcloud version: 19.0.2
  • PHP version: 7.4
  • Web server (Nginx, Apache2): Apache2
  • Web browser and version (Firefox 80, Google Chrome 74, etc): Firefox 80

Steps to reproduce

  • make apps.nextcloud.com domain unreachable
  • go to nextcloud and open side menu

Observed Results

  • the menu doesn't open and no links are present (screenshot 1)

Expected Results

  • that Side menu (Custom menu) works even if apps.nextcloud.com is unreachable

Labels of categories are fetched from app.nextcloud.com.
I will create a cache to fetch categories from app.nextcloud.com only one time.
